Famous Visitors

Over the years, Starehe has built an international reputation, and been honoured by visits from many esteemed and famous people.

Among them have been past and current Presidents of Kenya; the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Mr. Daniel Arap Moi, and His Excellency the Hon. Mwai Kibaki. The late Mrs. Indira Gandhi also visited, as did the late US Senator Robert Kennedy.

Notable sportsmen such as Pele and Muhammed Ali have visited, and Starehe has welcomed many Royal guests, including HRH Prince Edward and the Countess of Wessex, HRH the Duke of Gloucester, and Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands (when Crown Princess).

HRH The Princess Royal has visited Starehe Boys' Centre four times since 1971 and remains a steadfast supporter of Starehe and its mission.
