Implementing the new Competency Based Curriculum

Towards the end of 2022 we communicated some changes that would be taking place at the Starehe schools with the introduction of the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya. Whilst the roll out of the new curriculum continues, the planned increase to the number of pupils in secondary schools did not go ahead at the start of 2023.

Rather than secondary schools taking on additional students to complete the junior secondary years of the new curriculum, students actually joined junior secondary school in the same primary schools that they had already been attending. Instead of these students joining secondary schools early, the government upgraded most of the primary schools and the pupils joining junior secondary school were advised to continue their education in their respective primary schools.

Therefore the intake at the Starehe schools has remained the same, they continued to admit form one students who have done the national class eight examinations as in previous years.
